Meet Ms. Jackson

My name is Shelley Jackson and I am a first and second grade teacher at Poland Community School.  I graduated in 2000 from Saint Joseph's College in Standish, Maine.   I have been teaching for 17 years at PCS.  Prior to PCS, I was a Reading Associate at Steep Falls Elementary School.  In addition to first grade, I have taught a first-second grade loop and also second grade.  My favorite subject to teach is reading.  My favorite children's books are The Polar Express and Charlotte's Web.  I am privileged to see many children go from reading short books with only a few words on the page to chapter books.  It is an amazing transition to witness!
Prior to my teaching career, I was honored to serve four years in the United States Navy.  I was able to see different places and serve a country I love.  I have an 23 year old son, Cullen, who works at a car dealership.  I am extremely close to my family and value the time I get to spend with them.  I am a HUGE RED SOX FAN!!!  When I am not in school I love movies, reading and playing games.  The students will tell you I love "Star Wars" and that "Darth Vader" is my favorite character.
  My cat's name is Vader!
